The one and a half square kilometer Schellbruch nature reserve begins west of the fishing village of Gothmund. The river, lagoons, freshwater ponds, streams, moats, temporarily flooded meadows, forest ponds and large areas of reed lie together in a small space. Over 200 different bird species have already been counted in this wet habitat and bird paradise.
