The Prussian King Frederick II gave the order to build the church for the Bohemian settlers on the square in the midst of now Weber Colony Nowawes. The octagonal, elongated church building with a steep hipped roof and a striking west tower was built in 1752/53 to plans by the Amsterdam architect Jan Bouman, under whose direction also the Dutch Quarter.

The Friedrichskirche is in the center of the Weberviertel. The Prussian King Frederick II commissioned the construction of the church for the Bohemian settlers on the square in the middle of the Nowawes weavers' colony, which had been in existence since 1751.
