In 1766 the branch church “St. Clemens” in Neudorf near Weismain. In the summer of 2016, the 250th anniversary could be celebrated. The church was renovated for this occasion and now shines in new splendor. The church characterizes the townscape and is visible from afar into the Bärental. The upper end of the main portal (west portal) forms a sandstone figure of St. Clement in a niche with the attributes anchor and cross on a base with the inscription "St. Clemens 1733” and a segmented arched cornice.

The church of St. Clement in Neudorf
In 1520 a chapel near Neudorf was first mentioned, which was dedicated to St. Clement, St. Wendelin and St. Magdalena. The earlier pilgrimage to St. Clement would soon have been replaced by St. Wendelin, who was called by the peasant population for diseases of livestock and misfortune in the stable. For the too small wooden chapel a larger sandstone building was built in 1734 in Baroque style. As late as 1812, more than 5,000 believers were reported to have become members of St. Wendelin.
A legend tells us why the church is a bit off the beaten track: The village above the Krassachtal valley has, like so many other places, a "traveling church". Also, this church was originally to be built in another place. But every time you wanted to build up the bricks early in the morning, they disappeared and piled up outside the village, where today the church greets you to the Bärental and over the heights of the Jura.
