The Thumer narrow-gauge network once also went through Auerbach. Important for ARWA (later Esda), the large stocking factory in the Ore Mountains, which is located exactly opposite the train station. The former route is now partially developed as a foot and bike path. Unfortunately, the station's freight shed fell victim to a fire a few years ago, but the station building is still standing. For many years it was the domicile of the DRK. It is currently being converted into a fire extinguisher museum.

Auerbach (Erzgeb.) station was the most important station between Meinersdorf and Thum. It was put into operation together with the railway line in 1911 and at that time had three parallel tracks. In addition, there was an island platform, a one-storey entrance building with a side extension, a large saloons with equipment room, a large goods shed with two loading gates and a car body. Railway workers lived in a separate officials' house. In 1928, the facilities were expanded by two tracks, which required extensive earthworks. The now five tracks were connected with nine switches and two double slip switches. Entry signals now secured the station from both directions.

After the Second World War, the track systems were reduced and the entry signals were replaced by trapezoidal signs. Certain train journeys were then regulated by means of horn signals. Until recently, the station was used for regular train crossings. This was also the case on the last day of travel, on September 28, 1974. From 1976 the facilities have disappeared except for the station building.
