There are two mausoleums in the area of the Friedenskirche: 1. IN the Friedenskirche: The sarcophagi of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV (1795-1861) and his wife, Queen Elisabeth (1801-1873) are in a crypt below the nave.
2. AT the Friedenskirche: For the "99-days" Emperor Friedrich III, who ascended the throne in March 1888 at the age of 56 and died after a short time, his widow had the rotunda built at the Friedenskirche.
In the middle of the circular room are the large sarcophagi of Emperor Friedrich III. and his wife Victoria (she was buried here in 1901) in white marble, masterfully created by the sculptor Reinhold Begas. In a kind of altar niche there are two more tombs with elaborate marble sculptures on the right and left: Two of the couple's eight children lie here, the sons Sigismund (1864-1866) and Waldemar (1868-1879), who died young. In the middle of the niche, however, is the most important tomb: a comparatively simple coffin made of copper. This is the most recent addition to the mausoleum: The Soldier King's Coffin.
Friedrich Wilhelm I (1688-1740) - the so-called Soldier King and father of Frederick the Great - was originally buried in the Potsdam Garrison Church, like his son. Their coffins were evacuated during World War II and remained at Hohenzollern Castle in Baden-Württemberg until 1991. They only returned to Potsdam after German reunification – according to his wishes, Frederick the Great was buried in the crypt at Sanssouci Palace, and his father was buried in the mausoleum at the Friedenskirche.
The mausoleum cannot be visited. Its entrance can be found near the statue of Jesus in the cloister.
