Since I like castles, I photographed the building. Unfortunately, I was unable to take part in a guided tour of the castle. Maybe another time I'm without a bike.

The castle was built by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger in the Baroque style and designed as a Roman palace. The castle has more than 600 rooms on eleven floors, with state rooms facing the city and smaller living rooms facing the inner courtyard.

There are many sights here: the treasury with the imperial insignia, the Tre Kronor Museum, which tells the story of the castle's medieval history, and last but not least the reception rooms with the pompous state rooms. During the summer months, Gustav III's Antiques Museum and the castle church are also open. The changing of the guard and the Slottsboden souvenir shop attract many visitors.

Guard parade and changing of the guard

The parade of guards and the daily changing of the guard are also spectacular, usually around noon (12:15 p.m. on weekdays, 1:15 p.m. on Sundays, see link below for exact times). In the summer months, the parade of guards rides through the streets of the city to the castle with music. If you're lucky, they'll play a medley of Abba songs.
