You can enjoy great views on the Hochuferweg. In the beech forest of the Jasmund National Park, a few meters of altitude have to be overcome. The breathtaking views are worth every step. Since the chalk cliffs face east or south-east, you should be there in the morning when the sun is shining. Then the rocks shine most beautifully.

The imposing chalk coast with the famous Königsstuhl in the Jasmund National Park is the landmark of the island of Rügen and for many tourists the highlight among the sights. The hike over the high waterway from Sassnitz to Lohme past the famous Königsstuhl offers unique views of the Baltic Sea and the Cretaceous and is one of the most beautiful hiking trails on the island.

On June 25, 2011, UNESCO recognized the most valuable old beech forests in Germany as a World Heritage Site. In addition to the approximately 500 hectare core area in the Jasmund National Park, there are other large, natural beech forests, well protected in the Kellerwald and Hainich National Parks, in the Müritz National Park and in the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. Each forest is characterized by a special landscape, different soils and its own flora and fauna. A total of 94 valuable forest areas from 18 European countries represent the largest serial world heritage site in the world and a unique community of European beech forests - Europe's wilderness.

Right in the heart of the island of Rügen, surrounded by the old beech forests of the World Heritage Site, a hiking trail winds its way that will make every nature lover's heart beat faster: the Hochuferweg. In the fresh forest air, under the protective canopy of beech trees, hikers conquer altitude after altitude, and with every step the promise of magnificent views increases.

It's worth exploring the path during the morning when the sun is shining. Just when the first rays of sunshine bathe the chalk cliffs in a warm light and make them shine in all their splendor. These rocks, especially the famous Königsstuhl, are not only the symbol of Rügen, but for many also the highlight of their vacation.

From Sassnitz the path leads towards Lohme, and the hiker is always accompanied by the gentle sound of the Baltic Sea and the sight of the majestic chalk coast. Here, high above sea level, the lush green of the trees combines with the deep blue of the Baltic Sea and the brilliant white of the chalk cliffs to create a unique natural spectacle.

The hike through this part of the Jasmund National Park is more than just a simple walk - it is an experience, a journey through an impressive landscape that is second to none. And if you want to find out more about this special region, its geology and its protection status, a visit to the National Park Center is a must. Not only is knowledge imparted here, but it is also shown how admission helps to preserve this wonderful nature for future generations.
