Sculpture field between St. Wendel and Baltersweiler with 16 sculptures by 17 artists from 7 countries: starting point of the street of the sculptures.
58 large stone blocks, up to nine meters high and weighing up to 65 tons, form one of the greatest cultural attractions of the Saarland: the "Street of Sculptures", which stretches over 25 kilometers from the city of St. Wendels to the Bostalsee. In a scenic location along the Saarland circular hiking trail, 48 artists from eleven countries have created a huge open-air gallery that is unique in Germany.
It all began in 1971 with an interesting experiment by the St. Wendel sculptor Leo Kombrust to lead artists out of the studio for a limited period of time in order to have their message formulated in joint discussion and work in the open countryside.
The "Street of Sculptures" invites you to take a walk or a drive. It takes about half a day on foot and around two hours by bike to see the 58 works of art. On the way you can have a wonderful rest or picnic in cozy places far away from any hectic everyday life.
