The entire system consists of the Kainzmühl and Trausnitz reservoirs, the power plants in Reisach, Tanzmühle and Trausnitz, as well as the Rabenleite reservoir. At night, excess electricity from the Tanzmühle power station pumps water 180 m higher into the 1.5 million cubic meter concrete basin. It drives turbines in the Reisach power station at peak electricity times. You can't see anything of the pressure pipelines; they are laid underground.

Only at a certain angle of incidence of the UV rays of sunlight - the time of day and flight altitude are decisive - does this romantic play of colors arise. The view from the hang glider's perspective has its special charms.

So don't be surprised if you are standing at the elevated reservoir and the water is gray like the concrete surface, as in this photo on the right.
