Hohenfels Castle is the ruins of a hilltop castle at 545 m above sea level, located in the "Beutelfels" nature reserve north of the municipality of Imsbach in the Donnersberg district of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is unclear when Hohenfels Castle was built, but it is certain that the complex, originally belonging to Prüm Abbey, was already the fiefdom and ancestral seat of a ministerial family in the 11th century.

"Even though only a few remains remain, the history of this place in the Beutelfels nature reserve is still palpable. There is even speculation that a Roman mountain fortress or road station once existed in the area around Hohenfels Castle. The castle was destroyed in the spring of 1351 after a long and extensive siege by Counts Walram of Sponheim, Heinrich of Veldenz, and the cities of Speyer and Worms, who allied themselves on October 1, 1350, because of the Hohenfels robber barons."

"Hohenfels Castle was built in the first half of the 12th century directly above the center of the Imsbach iron ore deposits in the Langental valley at the instigation of the Prüm Abbey (Eifel). The mining area had belonged to the abbey since the 9th century, so it can be assumed that the abbey had been mining there since that time. The castle was probably built to protect the mining area."

Hohenfels Castle ruins. Destroyed in the 14th century after robber barons attacked (2 simple siege ramparts to the north and south-east). The ring wall to the west is partly preserved. The interior of the castle is destroyed. Several terraces and enclosures are still visible. 2 large moats in front of the natural mountain spur, which served as a shield wall. The stump of the tower can be seen at the top. Beautiful castle ruins with Boland history.

Werner von Bolanden is said to have owned these around 1128.

Bolanden is first mentioned in documents around 1200.

The castle was destroyed in 1351.
