When crossing the bridge you can see the terrain of the Hitzler shipyard. Specializing in repairs and construction of inland waterway vessels. It was founded by Johann Georg Hitzler in 1885. Barges always had an importance for Lauenburg and as a symbol for the boatmen, the caller stands on a forecourt on Elbstrasse.

When in the year 1861 the steam navigation on the Elbe was successfully operated by the brothers Burmester appropriate repair possibilities had to be created. In 1885, the task took place in a first shipyard operation, the brothers Burmester together with Johann Georg Hitzler. Already in the following year began in the shipyard on the north shore of Lauenburg harbor new construction of ships. The 300 tonne barge "Johanna" was the first ship to be built at the Hitzler shipyard, and the shipyard also developed the "Hitzler patent rudder", which has been manufactured and installed over 3000 times to date.
In the Hitzler shipyard until today barges are built and repaired. Since 2001 the Arminius plants and Franz Hitzler operate the Hitzler Werft GmbH together.
You can visit the shipyard as part of a guided tour and book it at the Tourist Information Lauenburg / Elbe.

The Marina Lauenburg, idyllically located on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, is not only an insider tip for leisure boaters: In addition to 70 berths for pleasure boats, there are also beautiful parking spaces for motorhomes. Each individual parking space now has its own seating groups with tables and chairs - for more comfort and more distance. In addition, the sanitary rooms have been newly renovated.
A lot of effort was put into making the outdoor area of the marina and the Skippertreff restaurant even more attractive. Additional seating options were created and sun loungers were purchased to be set up in the beach area. Drinks and food with a view of the water – marina guests can now look forward to even more! Pavilions provide protection from warm summer rain.
