Camp Balderhaar, near Kloosterhaar, was a labor camp that was built shortly before the Second World War as part of the job creation.

From January 1942 until the night of 2 to 3 October (Yom Kippur) of that year, the camp was used as a buffer for Westerbork. Jewish men lived in the camp as laborers during that period and were used for excavation work. In the said night all Jewish men from the labor camps, including those from Camp Balderhaar, were taken to Camp Westerbork.

The memorial is on the other side of the road as seen from the bike path.

The work in the camp was called occupation. The reasonable ration became considerably smaller after a while, as the occupiers did not consider it necessary to provide the Jews with sufficient food.
