The Fort at Edam was built between 1880 and 1920 as part of the Amsterdam Defense Line. The fort is located on the IJsselmeer north of the Edammersluis lock in the Zeevang polder near the city of Edam. In 1986, the Department of Defense transferred the fort to the Forest Service.
The fort is one of the most beautiful forts in the Amsterdam Defense Line and features a number of beautifully decorated rooms. A distinctive feature is also the front casemate, in which two cannons were previously installed. There is a beautiful view of the flood plain from the top of the fort.
