It is always impressive and also frightening how high the Elbe water can rise here. When you stand in awe in front of the sign on dry land,
you can hardly believe it and yet it was like that.
The highest water level measured was in 1855 at 9.89 m.
The height of the dike is 10.86 m. There is not much room for improvement...
I have also included 4 photos of the 2011 flood here for comparison.

At the high water level you can see how high the water of the Elbe in Lauenburg has risen again and again over the years. Karin Scherling runs the pottery "Der Topf" and created the high water level for Lauenburg / Elbe. Historical and current water levels of the Elbe are artfully recorded on it.
