Old Town Hall + St. James' Church – Bruchköbel/MKK 🚴‍♂️

Bruchköbel was first mentioned in a document in 1128 and was granted town rights by Emperor Charles IV in 1368. The Thirty Years' War brought total destruction; only the fortified tower, the former Protestant Lutheran church, and a house on Schweizergasse remained untouched. After World War II, Bruchköbel developed from a village into a town. The population grew rapidly due to the reception of many displaced persons. The renovation of the old town began in 1972. Bruchköbel's town center boasts some very attractive half-timbered buildings.

- The Protestant St. James' Church with its striking tower, which rises above the old half-timbered town hall depending on the line of sight. The fortified tower is 34.5 meters high and was built between 1505 and 1510. At one time, there were two parishes in Bruchköbel, with the Lutheran parish building now used as a library. St. James's Church was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War and was rebuilt in 1724. It received its neo-Romanesque choir with a semi-dome in 1872.

- The Old Town Hall was built in 1520 and also suffered during the Thirty Years' War at the beginning of the 17th century. Together with St. James's Church, the town hall is one of Bruchköbel's landmarks. The basement (16th century) is solid, while the upper level, the town hall, is made of half-timbering (18th century). The lower floor served for some time as the community wine cellar when wine production was cultivated in Bruchköbel. The upper floor has housed a local history museum since 1978. Exhibits from the Staufer period, coins, documents, and a diamond-cutting workshop that once provided employment are on display there. 🚴‍♂️
