The Kaasstrooimolen is a wooden corn windmill on the east side of the Bruggeneindse Heibaan (no. 13), on the corner with the Peerdekerkhofstraat, on the border of Heist-op-den-Berg (Bruggeneinde) and Hulshout. It is the last wooden standard mill in the district of Mechelen and the only witness of the 15 windmills of Heist-op-den-Berg.

The Kaasstrooimolen is one of the oldest mills in the Land van Heist. The oldest mention of the Heist windmills dates from 1418, at that time Jan van Arkel was lord of the Land van Mechelen and he demanded a kind of tax, namely the wind lease, from the millers. This wind lease had to be paid in a quantity of corn, for the Bruggeneindse mill this amounted to 7 veertelen rye (1 veertel rye Mechelse maat is approximately 86 1/2 liters). At that time people often talked about “the Hulshout mill”, but it was always about the Bruggeneindse mill. ("the windmill of Hulshout is currently the windmill of Bruggeneynde"). In 1474 it was owned by knight Pot and in 1587 by the then Lord of Heist.

The Cheese Spreading Mill is the last wooden, still working standard mill in the Mechelen district. In the shadow of the beautiful authentic mill, you will find the Pandoerenhoeve, a clay long-facade farm from the 17th century and a bakehouse in 19th century style.
Be sure to visit on Sunday and enjoy a regional beer, Kempen delicacies or traditionally baked bread on the terrace in summer or at the Leuven stew in the farm in winter.
Twice a year it is extra festive at the Heemerf. The Maypole festivals take place on the last Sunday of May and the mill festivals take place on the last Sunday of August. There is always a lot of extra entertainment, so definitely worth a visit!
