The Adler- und Wolfspark Kasselburg is an absolute highlight and definitely worth a visit. But the castle is also a great hiking destination and a gastronomic point for non-visitors.

The Kasselburg castle ruins stand on a basalt hill above the town of Pelm. The castle was built in the 12th century. The still preserved symbol of the castle is its impressive 37 meter high double tower. The Eagle and Wolf Park Kasselburg is located in and around the castle ruins.

The castle was built in the 12th century. Their builders may have been the lords of Castel, but this is not entirely certain. The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1291 as Castilburg, and in 1314 it was called Castelberch.

Kasselburg Eagle and Wildlife Park
A pretty little park with good exercise. Air show and wolf feeding are well timed. There is a great playground nearby with plenty of seating for coffee and/or snacks. (Self-service restaurant, prices okay)
Animals can be fed almost anywhere.
The castle is a hit with the birds of prey. If you like, you can climb a tower and enjoy a wonderful view.
Entrance fees:
Adults 10 euros
Children from 4 years 7.50 euros, prices April 2022

Dogs are not allowed. You could lock them in a box on site. No thank you. So I only saw the castle from afar.

The Kasselburg is the ruins of a hilltop castle on a 490 meter high basalt stock in Pelm near Gerolstein in the Vulkaneifel district of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The landmark of the Kasselburg that is still preserved today is its 37 meter high gate and residential tower, designed as a double tower, the origins of which are not exactly clear.
Beautiful hiking trails. Great view.

What particularly catches the eye is the 37-meter-high double tower from the 14th century, on the ground floor of which there was originally a passage to the castle courtyard. The tower comprised a total of eight floors, some of which were converted into living quarters with fireplaces. Some impressive remains of the inner castle, which adjoined the gatehouse, such as the palace and the chapel building, have been preserved. The square keep, with its two lower floors, dates back to the Romanesque period and is thus the oldest part of the complex. Originally free-standing, it was later integrated into the inner castle.
The Kasselburg was extensively renovated in the 19th and 20th centuries and now houses an eagle and wolf park.
