The old town hall - still the seat of the mayor and together with the new town hall the seat of the city administration - is probably the most historic building in the city.

The first town hall was already built in the 13th century and then expanded and rebuilt again and again. It is unique that hundreds of elements of a teaching building of the Masonic Great National Mother Lodge "To the Three Globes" were used for the design. The Arminia Bielefeld football club was founded in 1905 in the basement of the old town hall, where the Modersohn restaurant was located.
