The tower has a height of 14 meters above sea level. It stands at the end of the row of houses on the Graswarder and is accessible both as part of the daily natural history tours (10.30 a.m. and 3 p.m.) and daily from Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Easter to the end of October. Unfortunately, free entry to the observation tower around the clock is not permitted for legal reasons.

Originally the grass warder was an island. In 1954, a connection was established with the then peninsula Steinwarder. Since then, the water area between Steinwarder and Graswarder and the mainland has formed the Heiligenhafener Binnensee lake, which despite its name still has a connection with the Baltic Sea. The deforestation system of the stone and grass warder continues to develop in an easterly direction.

For some years now, sand has been removed from the grassy northern beach of Graswarder, which causes concern for the building owners living there. Central measures for coastal protection, however, are not provided by the public sector, despite existing conservation of the building.

The nature reserve Graswarder comprises the spit hooks wandering from west to east over a length of approx. 2.5 km, as well as the directly adjacent wadden and water areas of the Baltic Sea up to a width of 300 meters. The NSG covers a total area of 230 hectares, of which about 100 hectares are pure land area.

The nature reserve Graswarder was expelled in 1968 at the request of the NABU and extended in 1987 by revision of the protected area regulation
