    The Flügger lighthouse is the only one of the five lighthouses on Fehmarn that can be visited. The first lighthouse on this site was put into operation in 1872. 44 years later it was replaced by a new tower. Octagonal and made of yellow bricks with a red lantern, it measures 37.5 meters in total. It has been under monument protection since 2003. From 2009 to 2011 it was completely renovated. 162 steps lead up. The view is always worth it.

    From April 1st to October 29th, the Flügger lighthouse can be visited from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday is a day off. Admission for adults: 3 euros.

            In the middle of the Krummsteert nature reserve is the Flügge lighthouse - a true epitome of grandeur and tranquillity.
            On the south-western tip of the island of Fehmarn there used to be a group of trees called "Flügger Holz", which served as a landmark for seafarers to navigate. When this was received, the Prussian Ministry of Trade and Transport approved the construction of the first Flügger lighthouse, which went into operation in 1872. It was an octagonal, 15.5 m high yellow brick tower with a red lantern. Its fire burned at a height of 18 m above sea level and shone for 13 nm.

            Only 44 years later it was replaced by a new tower. It too is octagonal, made of yellow bricks, with a red lantern, but at 37.5 m it is more than twice as high. After it was put into operation in 1916, the old tower was demolished down to its foundation. In 1975, due to damage to the exterior masonry, the tower was clad in red and white fiber cement panels.

            A complete refurbishment was carried out between 2009 and 2011, during which these panels were removed, among other things, so that it regained its original appearance. In 2003 it was listed as a historical monument because of its special significance in terms of the history of technology and the cultural landscape.

              We parked at the end of the village, then walked to the lighthouse and then continued on the beach. It was a very nice round and the tower is nice and you can enter it as the only lighthouse on the island and climb it. Great view over the bay.

                In 1914/15, the new Flügger lighthouse was built next to the old lighthouse in 1872. At 37 m, it is Fehmarn's highest lighthouse. Surrounded by the nature reserve Krummsteert, this lighthouse has one of the most beautiful locations that the island has to offer. Since this lighthouse is the only one of Fehmarn's lighthouses can be climbed, you should definitely take the trouble and climb the 162 steps to enjoy a unique view.
