    The lakes around Mittenwald are simply wonderful: crystal-clear water, quiet forests, wide meadows along the banks and panoramic views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains. It is particularly beautiful here in autumn, when the larch and maple trees around the Geroldsee slowly change color.

                Lake Gerold, also known as Wagenbrüchsee, is a picturesque moor lake near Krün in Upper Bavaria, about 9 km east of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It lies at an elevation of 927 meters and offers a stunning backdrop with the Karwendel Mountains to the south. The lake is known for its emerald-green, clear water and the surrounding rolling meadows with traditional hay barns. Lake Gerold is a popular bathing lake with swimming areas and reaches pleasant temperatures in summer. Hiking trails connect it to the nearby Barmsee and Grubsee lakes.
