On the river Teplá, in the Teplian Highlands in western Bohemia, not far from Mariánské Lázně, lie the city and monastery Teplá. However, Teplá is best known for the Premonstratensian monastery, founded in 1193 by the Czech nobleman Hroznata. Hroznata came from a well-known noble family and took the rank of military commander of the border troops in the area of Teplá and the Chodsko. The story of the founding of the monastery depends on the third, by Henry VI. organized crusade together.

For the huge historical building complex and the park the visitor has to plan a few hours.

The interiors can only be visited with a guided tour, which is held exclusively in Czech. Photography is also prohibited.

The park is quite nice with large lawns and a lake and the buildings, some of which have been restored, are very handsome. I found the cemetery, which was used by the monastery until 1946, really beautiful and interesting. Here you can find sometimes tragic family stories on the mostly overturned gravestones.
