The Alzenau Castle is located northeast on a hill above the city. Due to its geographic location at Bavaria's most north-westerly gate, it has a special role to play here - in a sense, "at the very front in Bavaria". She welcomes visitors from neighboring Hesse in Bavaria and gets them in the mood for a visit to the popular Alzenau wine towns, among other things.

The actual living room of the lord of the castle and his family was in the knight's hall on the 2nd floor of the palas. When looking at the chimney, the chapel bay (a miniature version of a castle chapel and a jewel of this hall) as well as the kitchen and toilet bay, the visitor is transported back to the late Gothic period.

The oval-shaped hilltop castle complex is divided into a large forecourt surrounded by walls and the inner castle with the inner courtyard and the palace. The forecourt included the farmyard, in which the castle festivals take place today and to which the two-story courthouse, entwined with Parthenocissus, with large rectangular windows and stepped gables, borders.

A steep ascent leads to the inner castle. There is a 14 meter high mantle wall on the north-east side. Reinforced walls also continue to the north and south.

The massive masonry of the palace with the stair tower has a round arched frieze resting on consoles. In the basement there used to be rooms for the servants. There is a large representation hall above it. A narrow spiral staircase leads to the upper knight's hall, the actual living room of the lord of the castle and his family, which has been preserved in the late Gothic style. An interior visit (fireplace, chapel bay window as a miniature version of a castle chapel, kitchen and toilet bay bay) is only possible as part of group tours and events.
