    With its colorful houses, stone walls and glimpses of the lake, Varenna can be considered the pearl of Lake Como, a village that fascinates tourists from all over the world. Walking through the alleys of this village is like taking a journey through history. Really lovely!

      Varrenna in its medieval form is one of the most beautiful towns on Lake Como. The tour leads from the town church of St. Giorgio from the year 1313 on the numerous stairs of the hillside located on the lakeside old town down to the picturesque lakeside promenade, which leads partly on jetties on rocks at numerous Ristorantes and ice cream parlors.
      For parking recommended due to the narrowness of the place a parking garage at the southern end of Varenna.

          Varenna is rightly called "La Perla del Lago di Como". It is a small town with car-free gravel streets, a picturesque fishing port and colorful houses that stretch up the hillside. And then there are the old mansions with the beautiful gardens.

          We visited Varenna in early April. At the time it was tranquil and quiet. Unfortunately, this place is said to be very crowded during the season.

              Varenna is a beautiful village. The walk to the waterfall and the Castello is entertaining and a lot of fun. Finally, you can treat yourself to an ice cream on the lake.

                Varenna is also on the “Sentiero Viandante” hiking route and can be reached in 3 stages from Colico. The sections can be divided by bus or train and are very reminiscent of the 5-Terre.

                        When staying on Lake Como you should definitely pay a visit to Varenna. Very nice little town on the lake with colorful houses and small streets that invite you to linger and explore.
