At night the great imperial city gates were closed. Only the entrance, built in 1475, offered the opportunity to get into the city. Because of its finely structured gable, the entrance is considered the most beautiful gate in Memmingen. The Ulmer Tor, Westertor, Lindauer Tor and Kempter Tor have also been preserved from what used to be eight gates.

The entrance is a complex gate system in the Upper Swabian town of Memmingen that is under monument protection.
The gate is located on the east side of the so-called Ulm suburb near the Bettelturm. The Zollergarten borders the entrance.
The entrance is a complex and multi-part gate system made of bricks dating from the Gothic period. It is unplastered and has only a few ornaments. Due to its typical Swabian construction, it is one of the most beautiful preserved gates in Germany.
When the Ulm suburb was surrounded by walls, pedestrians who arrived after the gates closed could be let in through a small gate called a Diemerstürlins. In 1475, an impressive entrance gate was built at this point. In front of the entrance was the relatively wide, always flooded city moat. Only when the guards saw no danger did they lower the drawbridge for a fee to allow late arrivals access to the Zwinger behind it. While people and their cars were being searched, city soldiers waited on the battlements to ward off any possible attack. For a further fee, the main gate was opened, and for a third fee (also called customs), the arrivals were examined. Only when they received permission to enter the city did they enter the Ulm suburb. There they had to wait until the emergency gate was opened the next morning, from which they entered the city center.

The guard's room and the gate were still inhabited by an elderly lady until a few years ago, despite the lack of electricity and sanitary facilities.
