At Ritterstein 101, the Burgalbsprung at the fountain of the same name fills the idyllic Burgalbweiher. The pond drains into the Schwarzbach via the narrow Burgalb stream and is considered to be its most important source.

Information on the forestry office board: “As an artesian (ascending) spring, the Burgalb rises in the pond of the same name and flows at the outlet into one half of a baroque fountain trough from the garden of Trippstadt Castle. After one kilometer the Burgalb unites with the Pferdesbach to form the Schwarzbach, which flows into the Blies behind Zweibrücken, additionally fed by the Hornbach.”

Since the Burgalb is the main source stream of the Schwarzbach, the Burgalb source is also considered a Schwarzbach source.

In the summer of 2022, the Burgalbweiher was so dry that the overflow into the baroque fountain trough no longer worked.

Hiking on the Pfälzer Waldpfad: After Johanniskreuz you reach the natural monument Hindenburgkiefer and further along the path you pass the Burgalbweiher. The water overflow is via a beautiful fountain in the Burgalb and a little further then in the Schwarzbach.

A great place to cool off. The bubbling spring with the pool is ideal for refreshment or to refill water. The latter, however, perhaps better with a water filter, because the water seems to be coming from the pond.
