At 1,215 meters, the Fichtelberg is the highest mountain in the new federal states. The panoramic view from him is stunning. It extends over the Ore Mountains into the Bohemian Basin. The weather station belongs to the German Weather Service. It has been digitized and is no longer constantly staffed. It is a structure clad in wood and fits beautifully into the ridge location.

As a big highlight I can recommend the annual Fichtelberg march. It goes from Chemnitz on foot to the Fichtelberg - 64 km. Unique!

The bell was built to commemorate the unity of Germany, by private individuals and companies with donations, the bell was set up in 1920 with a weight of 1600 kg. A really great experience when it is rung on special occasions.

We drive from Chemnitz by bike several times in the year to the Fi.-berg up many routes are possible, from normal roads to the strenuous ways, Reitsteig etc. But who would like to cozier should use the Fichtelbergbahn.

At the hotel Sachsenbaude with adjoining bus stop the approx. 1.5 km long hiking trail to the big Fichtelberg over the small Fichtelberg starts directly. Highly recommended, a very nice way.

I live close to the Fichtelberg ... In winter, many kilometers of groomed trails - great for cross-country skiing.
In summer by mountain bike, beautiful trails but a bit exhausting.
It is not far to Karlsbad in the Czech Egertal, about 100 kilometers by bike there and back, whereby you have to drive back about ten kilometers uphill to go back over the Ore Mountains ridge (900 meters in altitude).

A dreamlike piece of nature up there and with me it was really tingling in the stomach when we went up the chairlift. And thanks to winter tourism, there is plenty of parking available in summer.
