Between 1914 and 1916, Bottrop's town hall was built in Neo-Renaissance style. The builder is Ludwig Becker. At that time the town hall formed with the other authorities a civic district and lay outside of the town center. Due to mining, the city grew enormously. The main building of the town hall is three-storeyed and above the arcade entrance there is a gallery. There are six stone sculptures there. They represent an artist, a farmer, a blacksmith, a bricklayer, a scientist and a miner. The town hall tower has a height of 51 meters. Special features are the glass paintings in the Art Nouveau style as well as the stucco work and the murals in the Council Chamber. In the adjoining building is the Bürgerbüro and the registry office

After extensive renovation, Bottrop Town Hall has been barrier-free since 2018. During the renovation of the historic administrative building, the building technology was also modernized, fire protection improved and energy-saving measures implemented.

Built in 1878 as an office building, the building was expanded in the neo-Renaissance style between 1913 and 1916 and given its current, listed form. The building is characterized by the approximately 51-meter-high, three-tiered bell tower and the arcade facing the square, above which there is a double gallery. Apart from the repair of bomb damage in the Second World War, the building was never renovated. The resulting backlog of renovations was the greatest challenge.

During the restoration, the focus was particularly on the practical future viability of the building. An intelligent heating control system was installed alongside new windows and new insulation to increase the building's energy efficiency. These measures lead to energy savings of up to 40 percent. The renewal of all pipes - from water to electricity to IT - ensures a modern office infrastructure for everyday use.

Barrier-free access to the town hall was made possible by installing platform lifts. The showroom allows the public to follow council meetings live. In addition, the building's historic detention cells were restored and opened to the public.
