            The pig's head is relatively unknown in Brochterbeck. Wrong, because a Bronze Age castle is said to have been located here. The rocks do not come close to the Dreikaiserstuhl, but they are definitely beautiful to look at.

              In some places the ramparts of the Early Bronze Age hilltop castle can still be seen. The castle consisted essentially of wooden palisades that were rammed into earth walls. It was probably not inhabited either, but served as a refuge or to monitor the pass through the Bocketal. It was built about 3000 years ago. Because of the way it was built, there is not much left after such a long time. Visitors should therefore not have too high expectations. However, if you discover one of these very flat ramparts, it is impressive to see how the builders adapted the system to the landscape 3000 years ago. If you want to delve a little deeper into the history of the Bronze Age in this area: The Stadtmuseum Ibbenbüren has a very informative website.
