A large boulder was dragged up the Gierenberg by the Nazis, marked with a swastika and made the focus of National Socialist legends. After the end of the Nazi regime, the stone was simply tipped over and later provided with a sign: "The large ice-age bedrock, it comes from the area around the village, was erected and used as a memorial from 1933 to 1945." In view of the historical singularity of Nazi terror a strangely confused and rather concealing description.

The 33 meter high Gierenberg is actually part of the steep slope from the former, broad Hunte River. At the top there is a large boulder with a National Socialist history.

On October 20, 1933, the stone with the carved swastika was unveiled at a large celebration with a festival march. For the National Socialists in the "Reichsmusterdorf" Dötlingen it was a monument to the seizure of power.

After the end of the war, the relics from the Nazi era were removed. The stone was originally planned to be blown up. In the end the swastika was milled out and the stone overturned. The circular depression can still be seen on the underside.
