The Alte Söll, also known as Friedrichstein, is a 734-meter-high rock in the center of Schöneck. From its highest point, there is a wide view over the Vogtland to the mountains of the Franconian Forest and Fichtel Mountains. You reach the top of the rock via a metal staircase. Schöneck Castle used to be located here, but no remains of it remain. The rock consists mostly of so-called quartzite, which was once used as a particularly durable building material.

The Friedrichstein station on the Alte Söll is a truly wonderful example with fantastic views of the Elster Mountains, Fichtel Mountains and even as far as the Thuringian Forest.

The Landwüst, Bärenloh and Schöneck stations could be observed from the column. There were comparatively few stations, but this was due to the fact that the more prominent station "Schöneck" existed only a few hundred meters to the northeast (today in the forest on Muldenberger Straße).

From the Alter Söll rock (734 metres) you have a panoramic view of the upper Vogtland with the Elster Mountains, the Elster Valley and, if visibility is good, even as far as the Fichtel Mountains.
