    A little south of the village of Raben lies the high medieval Rabenstein Castle. The castle was built in the 13th century using fieldstone and was intended to control the country road from Wittenberg to Brandenburg an der Havel. Today, the castle houses a restaurant and a small hostel. Knights' tournaments and other medieval themed events are also held here regularly.

          I was here in 2018 and found it super exciting. In my home town of Neuburg an der Donau, there are similar events every year and even once in the middle of Berlin, on the Potsdamer Platz site.

            If you come to Raben, you should pay a visit to the castle. On clear days, climbing the tower is a must! In addition, in the pretty Backhaus in previous years fresh bread and cakes were offered - very delicious! When I was there in 2017, the Backhaus was not in operation.                       Rabenstein is a high medieval castle on the steep Hagen, south of Raben. Built between 1209 and 1212, it was supposed to help control the tarpaulin crossing on the country road. There is a restaurant in the courtyard. At the moment (October 21) the castle is only open sporadically. The forecourt can, however, be visited. There is the large field stone barn with a plank truss roof. The castle shop opens in her at the weekend. The bakery was also orphaned when I visited.

                              Before you visit Rabenstein Castle, you should definitely find out whether it is open. At the moment (January 2023) neither the youth hostel nor the restaurant are open. Only a small kiosk is supposed to offer a small service on the weekends.
