Wolftitz Castle is the successor building built by the Lords of Einsiedel from 1460 to the Wolfsburg Castle built by the Sorbs around the year 800. Today, according to the sign on the gate pillar, the castle is the seat of the Einsiedel forest administration in Wolftitz.

The previous building, the Wolfsburg, was the residence of Kunz von Kaufungen until 1455, who planned and carried out the Saxon robbery of the princes from here in the year mentioned. As punishment for this, in addition to his beheading in Freiberg, the Wolfsburg was also razed. The Streitwald got its name from a 21-year dispute over ownership and hunting rights in the forest in the years 997 to 1018. The Wyhra, coming from Gnandstein, flows through the Streitwald.

Wolftitz Castle forms an irregular, almost square courtyard with the farm buildings. The castle stands on an L-shaped floor plan and goes back to a medieval moated castle.

Between 1460 and 1480, Castle Wolftitz, a knight's residence of the Lords of Einsiedel auf Gnandstein, was built in the valley. It remained in the possession of various von Einsiedel family members until it was expropriated without compensation in the Soviet occupation zone in 1945. From 1948/49 it was used as a retirement and nursing home until 2000. Since then the building has been empty. The von Einsiedel family recently bought it back along with a forest estate.
