The church in Kohren-Sahlis was built in the early 13th century. St. Gangolf is a Romanesque pillar basilica that has been largely preserved and has not changed much.
The three-aisled quarry stone building was first rebuilt in 1690 and structurally supplemented at the end of the 19th century. As with buildings from the early Middle Ages, the ground plan is relatively irregular. The choir was later drafted.

In many places you can see the transition in architectural style from Romanesque to early Gothic. The church houses some valuable tombs, including that of the bookseller and publisher George Leberecht Crusius. The epitaphaltar was erected for Wolf von Löser, a Sahliser squire.
