It was initially built in stone in 1378. It was located near the Petit-Pont and in the extension of the Saint-Denis street. The provost of the time, Hugues Aubriot was in charge of the work financed by the King. The works lasted about eight years (1378-1387). Once completed, the Parisians initially baptized it with the names of the New Bridge because it was the most recently built (not to be confused with the current New Bridge) and that of the Saint-Michel Bridge, due to its location.
