The Münsterschwarzach monastery can look back on a tradition going back to the 8th century. The minster at the confluence of the Schwarzach and Main rivers was built around 788. In the 18th century, the monastery complex was renovated in Baroque style, and the new abbey church was created by Balthasar Neumann (1727-1743). The church was damaged by lightning in 1810 and demolished between 1821 and 1827. It was not until 1938 that the monastery received a large abbey church, the architecture of which reminds of the Romanesque period.
