The Heisterburg, a large hill fort from the 10th to 11th centuries, stands on a ridge at the north-west end of the Deister. The Heisterburg is a good example of a medieval castle complex. The castle has an almost square core to the southwest, surrounded by a rampart and a moat. In the castle there are several small houses and the remains of walls from other buildings. The outer bailey north of the main bailey was protected by ramparts and moats. The castle was surveyed in 2014 with ground penetrating radar and magnetometer. It is assumed that the Heisterburg was a predecessor of the Barsinghausen monastery, but there are no written sources that confirm this.

The Heisterburg im Deister was a hill fort from the 10th to 11th centuries near the Lauenau district of Feggendorf. Half of it lies in the area of the joint municipality of Nenndorf and half in the town of Rodenberg in Lower Saxony.

The Heisterburg consists of a smaller, approximately 0.9 ha main castle and a spacious approximately 7.4 ha outer bailey.
