The church in Wengern traces its foundation back to Charlemagne (768 – 814 AD).
Saint Liborius was the patron saint of the Wengern. The church was first mentioned in documents in 1246, it may have been a pagan place of worship for the Saxons in the border and battle area between Saxony and Franconia, but that is not exactly known!
The altar and the baroque altar picture made of wood with the Romanesque triumphal cross above it, the baroque pulpit, the lectern with the pelican and the organ prospect are an impressive decoration of the church, from the tower of which "little Anton", one of the oldest bells still ringing, resonates in the triple chime in a wide area with the inscription: "Anthonius is called ick, Johann Sluck gott mick. Anno Domn. 1529".
