If these three elements come together at the right time, you can experience these dreamlike images of nature on the large maple floor, which can truly intoxicate you. In addition, the right time of day and sunshine, the perfect experience of nature. Unfortunately, this cannot be planned, the temperatures, including night frost and precipitation, shift every year. If a strong wind then blows in, it can also happen that the leaves are simply blown down before they turn golden yellow. So it can happen that in a year in mid-October you only come across bare maple trees in the Eng, while in the previous year the most beautiful autumn mood prevailed at the same time.
As a rule, the maple leaves slowly turn color at the tips in mid-September. Towards the end of September there is a beautiful color of the leaves, which, if the conditions are good, gets better with each additional day. The play of colors in the foliage becomes more colorful by mid-October, and by the end of October most of the leaves are on the ground. If you want to enjoy the autumn color of the tree to take photos of the most beautiful autumn pictures, you should plan a visit to the heart of the Karwendel around lunchtime. Then the sun shines into the leaves and creates this warm light with the yellow leaves. In the morning and afternoon there is already a lot of shade on the large maple floor in September and October. The surrounding mountains do not allow the sun's rays to shine into the narrow valley.

It is probably thanks to the Rissbach that over 2,200 maple trees are growing towards the sky in the Eng today. For centuries the brook flooded the alpine pasture year after year. With the masses of water, he also brought the sandy and barren subsoil, which is an ideal breeding ground for the maple, but which does not favor firs and spruces. Many maple trees in the Eng date from the 17th century. At that time - during the Thirty Years' War - some young maple trees could grow here, as the cattle were no longer driven into the Eng, possibly due to fear of looting or famine (because Tyrol was largely spared from the war). The seedlings were no longer grazed and were able to grow into the gnarled trees that enchant us today.
