The smallest of the 3 maars is nestled nicely in the crater about 100m lower than the surrounding area. A beautiful circular path leads around the Maar, a transition to the other Maaren and a path up to the observation tower. Swimming in the outdoor pool and boating are possible here.

If you are wondering what is a maar - here is the answer: A maar was created by a volcanic eruption when magma flows from the earth's interior towards the earth's surface. An explosive evaporation of groundwater created a crater that later filled with water.

The Gemündener Maar is approx. 38 meters deep and is located 1.5 kilometers from Daun. If you come here in summer, take swimming trunks with you, because unlike the other maars around Daun, swimming is allowed here and there is even a natural outdoor pool.

The maar lake of the Gemündener Maar is around 325 m long, 300 m wide and a maximum of 38 m deep. This makes it the smallest of the three Dauner Maars.
In the bathing season (May to September), a visit to the Gemündener Maar natural swimming pool is definitely worthwhile for water lovers. Here you can find the desired cooling on hot summer days.

At the Gemündener Maar you will find a cozy natural outdoor pool - making it the only one in the Dauner Maar where you are allowed to swim. There are large sunbathing areas, a non-swimmer area and a diving tower.

The outdoor pool is open daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. from July to September.

Adults pay 5 euros entry and children 3.50 euros.

The Gemündener Maar is the northernmost of the 3 Dauner Maarseen and is closest to the city. At this Maar is a very nice natural outdoor pool and it may be bathed. The entrance fee in 2016 is 3.50 euros and there is even a diving tower and a boat rental.
