The castle dates from before the 16th century and burnt down in 1596. It was rebuilt by Mathieu-Xavier de Ghellinck, who purchased the Nokere estate in 1727. The two side wings were erected from 1773 to 1783 and the castle got its current classicist appearance. There are several service buildings nearby, including a 17th-century gatehouse with Jacob van Gavere's tombstone and a coach house with an assortment of coaches from the 18th and 19th centuries.
