In 2001, the Danish regent couple Queen Margrethe and her husband Prins Henrik received three elephants during an official state visit to Thailand. Even with heads of state, such a gift is not an everyday occurrence and it should then be housed with dignity. The inhabitants of the elephant house therefore have a royal history, and the architect for the house was none other than Norman Foster, who also designed the dome on the Bundestag. The large dome lets plenty of daylight into the elephant house. The outdoor facility was designed by landscape architect Stig L. Andersson. There is therefore a lot of information about elephants in Thailand in the house.

The zoo, founded in the 19th century, is one of the most important in Denmark. In addition to hippopotamus, giraffe, polar bear, tiger, lion, etc. there are royal elephants and pandas from China. With its architecture and the history of the elephants, the elephant house has earned a special HighLight. The tower was modeled on the Eiffel Tower and can be seen widely as a landmark. A great view from above, which is unfortunately limited by a fine-meshed fence (but no cell phones fall down from above ...). Definitely worth a visit, not only with children.
