From the castle Ortenstein, which lay over the Steinachviertel of Meran, only the crenellated tower is left. In the 18th century, the tower was used as a warehouse for gunpowder.

Remains of the walls and dilapidated staircases reveal the connection between the fortified tower and the Passeirer Tor.

However, the special location of the Meraner Pulverturm offers its greatest attraction: The visitor overlooks the spa town as well as the upper and lower corn with their villas, green areas and residences. The Texel Group and the Burggrafenamt show their best side from this perspective and make a visit an unforgettable experience.

The ruins Ortenstein (Italian Rovina Ortenstein) is located above the spa town of Merano in South Tyrol (Italy) and today consists only of the keep of the castle, the Powder Tower.

The tower has a height of 12 meters, inside is a steel structure with stairs. From the castle itself, very little information is handed down, since it was destroyed early.
