The castle mill was first mentioned in records in 1445 and can look back on a history steeped in tradition as the oldest mill in Radeberg. After the last major renovation in 1982 by master miller Günter Sonntag, it was in operation as a 3 to wheat mill until mid-1996. The fully functional facility essentially consists of 3 double chairs, a grinding machine, 2 plansifters, cleaning, pneumatic conveying, 3 mixing machines and a Francis spiral turbine. In January 2016, a new water wheel was installed after the old 2012 had to be removed due to wear. After a 22-year break from grinding, we resumed grinding at a passage for viewing and learning purposes at the end of 2017.

The Schlossmühle was originally used to supply the neighboring Klippenstein Castle. Over the centuries, it has experienced numerous natural disasters, including floods, droughts, and fires.
