The way down is very easy and smooth. However, you should watch out for two large transverse grooves and ideally you shouldn't ride a hardtail. There are occasionally large loose stones on the way, so it's best not to aim for top speed.
The way up is also a great alternative from Schierke to the Brockenstraße, but it requires stamina and concentration.

This is a fairly wide forest path. I would rather drive up here because it does not have the typical forest freeway character.
Downhill I would always prefer a trail.
