One of the most spectacular rock crevices in the region: the Kohlscheuer. The hiking trail runs directly through this crevice, but it is very narrow and dark. Bringing a flashlight is strongly recommended. If walking through the rock is too adventurous or simply too cramped for you, you can also comfortably walk around it.

At the beginning of the Kohlscheuer there is a sign pointing to "Adventure Kohlscheuer" 1 to 4. Yes, the Kohlscheuer is a real adventure! Together with Rittergang and Deiwepetz, this results in a top trio that is unparalleled even in this region! These are long crevices in the rock that sometimes no longer allows light to penetrate! Lots of great narrow paths in a wonderful rocky landscape. The caves are up to 50 meters long. A headlamp is therefore recommended.

Since previous comments have provided different length measurements of the rock crevice, I'll quote a local source here:

The Kuelscheier is a group of rocks with a special attraction in its center: a dark, narrow, approximately 100-meter-long rock tunnel, closed at the top. It was formed when sandstone blocks separated from the rock face along cracks. A spring beneath the rocks marks the transition from the permeable sandstone to the less permeable, clayey marl below.

The rock passage is so narrow in places that only one-way traffic is possible. A flashlight is necessary to explore the rock tunnel, through which a path leads.

The name "Kuelscheier" probably originated from the fact that charcoal from the surrounding charcoal kilns was temporarily stored in the crevices of the rock group. The crevices thus served as a kind of barn and thus gave rise to the name "Kuelscheier," meaning "coal barn."

The Kuelscheier rock formation is located directly on Route 2 of the Mullerthal Trail. It can also be reached via the local hiking trail C2.

The Raiberhiehl (Robbers' Cave) is located on hiking trail B2 (4.2 km) in Berdorf. At the beginning, you almost crawl through it, and at the end, you exit the cave via stairs.

The Kuelscheier rock passage is pitch black. Here you need a pocket lantern to cross the approximately 100 meters without bumps. The corridor is also a one-way street. That's why you shouldn't get in from the wrong side, because you can't pass each other in oncoming traffic.

This "circuit" is highly recommended when it's dry. Please don't bring a bulky backpack, as the passages are quite narrow. Simply follow the stairs with iron railings up and then the stations from 4 to 1 and back to the backpack.
