The Rhine Tower is a striking landmark of Düsseldorf's Rhine landscape. It stands on the edge of the southern city center at the entrance to the Media Harbor, right next to the North Rhine-Westphalian State Parliament and the West German Broadcasting building.

The Rhine Tower (built between 1979 and 1982, architect H. Deilmann) is 240.5 meters high and has a restaurant at a height of 172.5 meters that rotates on its own axis once an hour (for technical reasons, the platform rotates in one direction from 1 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and in the other from 6 p.m. to midnight; the rest of the time the restaurant remains in one place).

Below it is a self-service restaurant and an observation platform from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Düsseldorf: the Media Harbor, Old Town, Hofgarten, Königsallee and the Rhine with its family of bridges lie at the foot of the Rhine Tower. When the weather is nice, the view extends as far as the Bergisches Land and Cologne.

The function of the illuminated portholes of the Rhine Tower is unique in the world: 39 of its 62 portholes, separated by air traffic control lights, form a decimal clock in three height sections above the 160-meter-long shaft of the tower.

The 62 portholes are each equipped with twelve LEDs, which in turn are made up of a group of four red, green and blue LEDs. Different colors can be created by dimming them up.
