The Görlitz Altstadtbrücke bridge is mentioned for the first time in 1298. It was built with wood and had to be renewed again and again, because not only the burden of the commercial caravans paid its tribute, but also fire, floods and the effects of the war.
Today's Old Town Bridge was officially opened on October 20, 2004. Since then, the pedestrian bridge has historically connected the two parts of the European city of Görlitz / Zgorzelec.

After the arch bridge was blown up at the end of the Second World War and the subsequent separation of the city into a German and Polish part, only the stone abutments on both sides of the bank were a reminder of the bridge. In 2004, a new building was opened as a pedestrian bridge between Görlitz on the German side and Zgorzelec on the Polish side over the Lusatian Neisse. The arch bridge has a span of around 80 meters and is intended to be a symbol of a Europe that is growing together and parts of the city that are growing together again.

Görlitz - one of the most beautiful cities in Germany. Nearly 4000 buildings that are listed. About 200 houses attributed to the Renaissance period. Over 30 medieval hall houses of the "Görlitzer type". The easternmost tip of Germany is exactly on the 15th Längenmeridian. After that, the CET (Central European Time), i. in Görlitz, all clocks go exactly because the MEZ and the WOZ (true local time) coincide here.

Old Town Bridge

The Old Town Bridge connects the Görlitz old town with the Zgorzelec Neisse suburb. Coming from the Görlitz Neisse Street, you cross Uferstrasse or Hotherstrasse below the parish church of St. Peter and Paul to get to the bridge.
