About 3.2 kilometers long is the separate cycle and hiking trail around the water. In addition to playgrounds, walkways and platforms on the water, a floodgate of the Emscher and action items such as the Whisper Bridge attract the interest of the visitors. In the middle of the lake small islands look out of the water. One is only overgrown with bushes and the so-called landscape island with dock and otherwise only a quiet bank in seclusion from the busy shore, which can only be reached by boat. Cycle and hiking trailThe so-called cultural island not far from the harbor is home to one of the few memories of what used to be here with the Thomas pear from the steelworks erected here. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The view from the east bank shows not only the typical silhouette of old Hörde with the church with the slender church tower, the Hoesch gasometer and the remaining blast furnaces on the Phoenix West site, but also the new skyline on the lake.
