Operating hours of the Danube ferry Sandbach:

March 15th - April 30th 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
May 1st - September 30th 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
September 30 - November 15 07:00 - 18:00

Limited ferry service in storm, high water and heavy fog.

Winter break from 14th November to 15th March

The ferry enables a crossing from Sandbach to the Danube cycle path. The cycle path runs to the left of the Danube, but cycling to the right of the Danube between Vilshofen and Seestetten is also possible, but not on a cycle path but on quiet side streets with little traffic. From Seestetten, however, you only continue through the forest and you have to accept the climb because it is far too dangerous down on the main road!

Here you can cross the Danube and continue on the left side. To the right of the Danube, the path ends in Seestetten and you can only go up and through the forest to Passau. Continuing to Passau on the main road is definitely far too dangerous here!

Use the Danube ferry if you are traveling to the right of the Danube and want to go to Passau - from here you must continue to the left, because you can't go any further from Seestetten!

For those who normally only cycle over bridges, ferries are a very interesting option. The crossing is a nice change during the tour and you can also enjoy a great view. You can shorten the waiting time by taking great photos.

We met the ferrywoman Rieger on the crossing; her father-in-law Max Rieger was killed here in 1982 during a ferry crossing. No one could give any more details about the circumstances of the fatal accident. An autopsy also yielded no results.
Ferry prices: €1.50 per adult with bicycle
